Have you ever heard Hatebreed’s Under The Knife EP? Then you know exactly what to expect from Enter The Den…, the debut EP from Long Island hardcore band, Lion’s Den. Drywall beware. As soon as it starts, you’re compelled to smash your enemies. Each riff calls for movement, every breakdown demands blood.
All 4 songs on here are spin kick and crowdkill worthy. Riffs, snare, and breakdowns. All killer, no filler. Opening track, Suffer My Pain might be my favorite. It immediately invokes an era of hardcore that should be near and dear to many. What is better than an opener that sets the tone of violence in such a beautiful way? Equally great, the EP closer, Through The Serpent’s Eyes ends things just as violently as they started. I can see it now, how scary the pits will be at their shows.
Enter The Den… is carried out fantastically, though it is largely familiar. Nothing that hasn’t been done before, something mastered by the genres greats back in the 90s. To me, there really isn’t anything wrong with that. That’s the point. There surely at least one moment on each track where you can feel the floor give out beneath you. This is hardcore meant to move bodies, no more, no less.
No, the EP does not do anything crazy, it doesn’t need to, and no, Lion’s Den are not the new Hatebreed, they don’t need to be. What is Lion’s Den? No-nonsense 90s style metallic hardcore, and yet another example of why LINYHC will always be the best of the best when it comes to hardcore music quality and output. It isn’t even close. Enter the lion’s den and learn the warriors way.
Score 8/10
