Do you like Waking The Cadaver level ignorance? Look no further than the brutal death coming from Colorado’s Disgustingest. Their brand new EP, Coagulating Putrescence is a certified hoe scaring landmark. I pressed play on this in my car and the volume was near full blast without me knowing and it really scared the living shit out of me.Â
The soundscape on this, the vocals on this, maaaaan it’s like I’m hearing some shit outta Dead Space. CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS! Thankfully, this is not a game. If it was I’d have to pause every 45 seconds to collect myself after hearing a sound that freaked me out. Just to eventually stop playing all together after 5 minutes (yes, I still haven’t beaten Dead Space).Â
From the start of the opening track, Primitive Lobotomy, I knew this shit was gonna be killer start to finish. The guitars are ripping your flesh to shreds while the drums and bass are focused on pulverizing your entire body into a fine powder. Shouldn’t be any other way. Something I look forward to hearing, and something I’ve grown to expect hearing from a Kendrick Lemke (Pedestal for Leviathan, ex-Bodybox, ex-Graveview) involved death metal project, is this death stomp that has various forms and various grooves, and shows up in various places, like on the tracks Digital Cyst and Hallucinogenic Necrosis. It isn’t unique to bands Kendrick has been in/is in by any means, and it most certainly didn’t originate at this point, but when I hear it I think of the early Bodybox days and the boom of Maggot Stomp.
That was really my bridge into more brutal death metal. I had just moved down to Florida for my 4.5 year stint there, and was properly indoctrinated by Nightshift Merch and redneck swamp death. Good times. Disgustingest is a more disgusting, ignorant, brutal, and slamming assault on the listener than those mentioned above.
Fragments of the Self kinda threw me for a loop. It’s an outro track that, to my ears at least, has almost got this bit of a calmer hardcore-esque or nu-metal bounce to it. I wasn’t really expecting it. I thought this thing was just going to slaughter you up until the last second, but it slows down the pace to essentially walk with you to the end of this experience. You’ve finally reached the safe room. But at what cost? Fragments haunts you as you leave, reflecting on the madness you went through to get to the end.
This release is straight up brutal slamming death, no funny business. Delete that fake brutal shit you’ve been jamming, and check out Coagulating Putrescence when it drops on February 20th. I promise it’s some of the Disgustingest shit you’ll hear.
Score: 9/10
