Death/Doom - two genres I could not live without and throwing them together makes it near impossible for me not to gravitate towards your band. From Belgium comes Gateway with their latest release "Galgendood," a record that gives I'd say most of Incantation's catalog an honest run for their money.

From the opening riffs on "The Coexistence of Dismal Entities," you are brought into this bleak world that has you feeling suffocated, but you don't want to leave. Throughout the record, you are brought through this world via 6 songs at around a 35ish-minute runtime that does not wear out its welcome.

Each song feels deliberate, and that the album simply would not work if any of these songs were not on it. The mix on this album is all-encompassing; the chainsaw guitars with the ride cymbals create a cacophony of ear-bleeding brilliance. This is not all blasts or slowed-down riffs; they bring in what makes doom so great in my opinion, which is the groove. This band has much in common with a Rise Above Records or Florida in the 90’s style band, as it does with any band out of Gothenburg. This is melodic death doom at its highest caliber, and I truly hope this band gets pushed and noticed as they deserve it.
