Celestial Sanctuary - Insatiable Thirst for Torment

Writer: SamSam

Celestial Sanctuary are quickly becoming the band to beat in the UK Death Metal scene, these East Anglian Riffmeisters impress me more and more on each listen, and blow me away each and every time I am lucky enough to see them hit the stage.

They just dropped the sophomore album - Insatiable Thirst for Torment, which is adorned by some of the most metal album artwork to grace a smaller outfit's release since the 90s. This thing is a beast, and the music inside is even beastlier.

Insatiable Thirst for Torment is 40 minutes of pure riff music, played with a tone that sounds like being stone cold stunnered into an active volcano. Four of the eight tracks have been released in the lead up as singles, but that doesn't stop this release from being exciting, fresh, and inspiring to listen to from beginning to end.

It's hard not to just sit here and fanboy over how we'll put together this record is. Everything from the crushing reverb-heavy vocals to the clangy bass grooves played by a guy that looks like Tommy from the TV show Power, is simply fantastic.

This is a masterclass in old-school death metal, and deserves to be on every modern death metal playlist. I'd been looking forward to this release more than anything set for this year, and I was not disappointed. Let that speak for itself.
