Carnosus rule. It’s not often I can make that call after just a few seconds of an opening track, but upon booting up their sophomore LP, the first time I’ve heard the band, I was hooked. This Swedish quintet have been together since 2011, but only dropped their first full length in 2020, following it up just a month ago with Visions of Infinihility, an album name with so many uses of the letter “i” that it turns into a blur whenever I look at it.

This is a technical death metal band, with a fair bit of melody involved, without verging into clean singing. Fans of Revocation and Arsis will dig this pretty hard I think, those are the bands I thought of during my listen. Expect crushing riffs, ferocious solos, and killer vocals throughout. The drums are also an amazing listen, with Jacob Hedner consistently blasting away, throwing fills in left and right, and generally just impressing his way through the entire record. Carnosus is a band made up of virtuosos, and Hedner stands out among them.

Visions of Infinihility is a great record, to the point where it’s hard to choose favourite tracks, as a full listen, this LP is cohesive and consistent, with no stale moments or down time, it just wrecks from beginning to end. It’s full of memorable moments and riffs, and is solid enough to be an immediate replay.

Devourer of Light has a fantastic descending riff that really drives the song and is built upon and then simplified over the track's runtime. Procession of Depression is a bit slower and trudgier, with menacing galloping riffs and pinch harmonics, sounding like something from the likes of Celestial Sanctuary, which is never a bad thing. Each of the tracks on the record do the classic technical death metal thing, and make you want to pick up your guitar to try and learn the tracks, only to fail hard and fast.

This is a 35 minute killer record, and shows that Carnosus deserve a lot more attention than they currently have, they’ve put the time in, they have an insane amount of talent, and I want them to come tour near me - so track this record down, give it an infinite number of spins, and support them - they are the next big thing in Tech Death.
